ECIU Univerity challenges are a unique opportunity for students to acquire relevant skills for their future, develop ideas in an international environment and come into contact with companies and public organisations in Europe. Micro-modules, on the other hand, are short training pills that allow students to deepen their understanding of the UN SDG 11, gain additional competences that will help them in solving a challenge, or learn another language.

Estudiants de l'ECIU

UAB students can enrol in any of the challenges or micro-modules offered by ECIU University members.

The UAB offers three new challenges under the ECIU University:

Meet our neighbours: break the class, race, and gender segregation in Sant Joan Despí

The challenge is to build coexistence and a sense of identity, to improve social ties between the neighbourhoods of Sant Joan Despí and break prejudices and mental maps. to do so, participants will have to try to answer the following question: What solutions can be used to promote diversity and equal opportunities among the populations of the different neighbourhoods making up this town, while at the same time creating experiences of global citizenship?

The challenge is offered in hybrid mode, with online session and fieldwork, and will take place from 3 October to 30 November. Registration now open.

Dealing with discrimination in young groups

The main objective of this challenge is to study how to make young people from Terrassa aware of discrimination so that these can be identified by the local administration and, consequently, help to increase the effectiveness of municipal public policies. Those participating will have to analyse different types of discriminations suffered by specific groups of young people, taking into account the places in which they occur to collect and systemise the information on discrimination in the city and thus provide answers from a comprehensive approach.

The challenge, which is now open for registration, will be offered in a hybrid study format and will take place from October to December.

Guarantee food security based on local ecosystems

La Botiga is a food guarantee, community empowerment and sustainability project which appeared in response to traditional food distribution strategies to deal with the lack of food among the poorest members of the community in the town of Prat de Llobregat. Students will study the real impact that this service model has on the community and provide evidence of the transformative benefits of its implementation.

This challenge, which is now open for registration, is offered 100% online and represents an average workload of 6.5 hours per week. The challenge runs from 9 October to 20 December.

UAB micro-modules

Apart from challenges, students also have the possibility to take micro-modules, short training pills that allow them to gain more competences.

Registration is now open for 4 UAB micro-modules: Energy in transportation, to learn to calculate the impact transport systems have in terms of energy and explore the best strategies to cut-down on this impact; Gender as a cross-cutting tool for understanding, diagnosing, and solving challenges, in which students can identify and understand the key concepts of feminist thought and how to apply a gender and queer perspective on the analysis of social challenges; Language Studies - Catalan and Language Studies – Spanish, with different language levels available.

What can ECIU University do for students?

Learning opportunities, both challenges and micro-modules, are not only about gaining new skills and challenging the way students think. They will also be able to:

  • Gain international experience, through collaboration with different European universities.
  • Build connections. Working with students, businesses and communities across Europe will allow us to grow the network of connections in the private, public and non-profit sectors.
  • Lead innovation, contributing to social change through innovative projects and proposing game-changing solutions, making a lasting impact on society.

International experience

Apart from the challenges and micro-modules offered by the UAB, students can participate in any of the proposals of the universities that are part of the ECIU University. These programmes can be found on the new platform of challenges and micro-modules, updated periodically, and range from artificial intelligence to engineering. Many of these experiences include a short mobility stay at the organising university (specified in the description of each challenge).
