The UAB ranks 34 worldwide in a new Sustainable Development Goals' ranking

The UAB ranks 34 worldwide in the first edition of the THE University Impact Ranking, a new global university ranking aimed at measuring the degree to which the institutions are successfully meeting the sustainable development goals outlined by the United Nations. The UAB ranks second among Spanish universities.
The UAB stands out in the Reduced Inequalities goal, in which it positions itself in 7th position worldwide and first in Spain. This parameter included number of students with disabilities, number of staff with disabilities, number of foreign students from developing countries, and policies specifically addressed to minority groups (anti-discrimination measures, ethnic groups, students with little economic resources, women, LGBTI groups and the disabled).
The UAB also stands out in Gender Equality, where it ranks 11th, and in Responsible Consumption and Production, reaching the 20th position. It is also among the top 50 worldwide in Sustainable Cities and Communities, reaching position 45.
This is the first edition of the THE University Impact Ranking, a new global university ranking which aims at measuring the degree to which institutions successfully reach the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The 17 SDGs were adopted by the UN in 2016 and provide a proposal framework for the development of a sustainable world. The first edition of the ranking includes metrics based on 11 of these development goals, although the long-term objective is for the ranking to measure the performance of all 17 goals.
The 11 goals chosen for this first edition are: Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals.
The ranking measures different university variables, such as the number of graduates in the health fields, the proportion of women working in upper academic positions, policies and practices related to labour safety, and the volume of residue generated. This data was provided by three sources: data provided by each of the universities, bibliometric information provided by Elsevier's Scopus, and a reputation survey.
The UAB is a university which is committed to social and environmental development, and has worked many years to fulfill some of the aspects included in the SDGs.
