The School of Engineering, the Faculty of Biosciences, the Faculty of Sciences and the Observatory for Equality of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) join together to celebrate the 11F, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with a set of activities that extend up to 8M, International Women's Day, and that aims to offer space to make visible and reflect on our presence and role in engineering

05/02/2024

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a conference aimed at recognising the crucial role that women have played and have in the field of science and engineering, as well as promoting gender equality in these areas. One of the objectives is to offer space to make visible and reflect on our presence and role in these areas. The other objective is to inspire and encourage participation by addressing the gender barriers and stereotypes that still exist in these sectors.

This year 2024, the School of Engineering, the Faculty of Biosciences and the Faculty of Sciences, together with the Observatory for Equality of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), have organized a program of varied activities that end around another date, the 8M International Women's Day. Throughout this period you can enjoy:

Exhibition: The scientists and engineers who will come, from February 9 to March 10, to the exhibitors of the Science and Technology Library and in the hall of the School of Engineering.
Show: The scientists disseminate science, from February 5 to March 8, in the BCT Space.
The specific activities that will be carried out in the BCT Space of the library are:

“Scikus with perspective”, on February 13 at 13:00: Scikus (Science + haikus) debate and reading session as a means to make scientists known.

“The scientists and technologists who will come”, on February 20 at 13:30: Conversation with women who have started their footsteps in the world of science and technology, with the participation of Alexandra Gómez Villa (PhD student in computer vision, CVC), Júlia Laguna Miralles (PhD in Mathematics and Physics, winner of a Wonnow grant from LaCaixa and Microsoft for women in STEMdonado) and Patricia Ayma Maldonado (President and CTO Biotechnology from VEnvirotech).

"Hypatia Mars, exploring the future of space", on February 27 at 13:30: Talk about the experience of the Hypatia I crew, and presentation of the new challenge that the second crew will face, with the participation of Neus Sabaté Vizcarra (Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona IMB-CNM-CSIC) and Helena Arias Casals (Student of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering of the UPC).

Finally, we end this cycle of activities with:

Women’s self-defense workshop, led by the World-Physical club, at SAF, 13 March at 5pm. This workshop not only provides practical and useful tools to develop in different intimidating situations, but also helps to understand and manage our reactions and emotions in the face of aggression. All with the aim of improving self-confidence and becoming aware of our capacities and all our potential. Registration period from 11F to 8M at this link

This set of activities aims to promote the visibility of women in the field of science, promote gender equality and provide tools for their professional and personal consolidation in these areas.
