We detail below the different activities that the UAB libraries have prepared this year to promote open access:

Escape room on open access!

By Katrine Sundsbø

Come and play with us! We are in 2100 and all the research is published without costs for readers or authors. Solve a series of riddles that will help us to defeat the villain who has closed all the research in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. During the game you will learn the basics of Open Access. Your task will consist in unblocking the research and make it public and free again.

Date: Thursday, October 24th, all day long
Place: Digital Lab of the UAB Open Labs, Sala de Revistes of the Biblioteca d’Humanitats
Registration: Previous registration through the web form is required to be allowed to play. Registration can be done individually or as a team. If you do it as a team, you have to detail the rest of members of your team in the “Observacions” box of the form during your individual enrollment. If you sign up individually you will do the activity with other people who have also booked individually.

Talk: Publish in open acces at MDPI and with a 25% discount!

The UAB has recently joined the Institutional Open Access Program (IOAP) of the publisher Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI) offering UAB researchers and students a remarkable incentive to publish in MDPI journals at more affordable costs. All of them are open access with a CC-BY license.
Mr. Marcos Arranz, editor of ‘MDPI and Genes’, will explain in this talk how to publish in MDPI journals. Linked to this publisher for 2 years, Marcos has lead more than 20 publishing projects, has processed more than 100 articles of this journal and has represented ‘MDPI and Genes’ in 5 conferences at an international level.

The UAB Libraries Service participates in a micro-MOOC on Twitter on Open Science!

This year during the Open Access Week 18 Spanish universities and the CSIC –coordinated by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya– will participate in a MicroMOOC on Twitter to disseminate all aspects related to open science.
