The UAB's Observatory for Tourism and the CORE in Cultural Heritage has organised for 15 and 16 November, the First Sessions on Enotourism and Cultural Heritage with the aim of analysing the enotourism sector and giving visibility to the relation between enotourism and cultural heritage, with the Vallès counties as a study case.

The Enotourism and Cultural Heritage in Catalonia sessions will bring together professionals from the enology and enotourism sectors, experts in tourism and cultural heritage, cellars, representatives of protected designation of origin wines and students.

During the first day's session, to be held at the Sala de Graus of the UAB Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the topics under analysis will be the current state of the enotourism sector and the trends of this new emerging economic sector, which is in full expansion in Catalonia and becoming a source of regional development.

On 16 November, participants will go on a trip to La Muntada, located in the Sant Llorenç del Munt Natural Park, where they will study the case of the Vallès counties as an enotourism site, based on the experiences of several of the sector's agents and local administration representatives.

The sessions form part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage and the Year of Cultural Tourism in Catalonia and include the collaboration of the University School of Tourism and Hotel Management, as organiser, and of the research group Tudistar from the UAB Department of Geography.

The UAB's Relation with the Wine Sector
The UAB was a pioneer in organising in 2016 a co-creation and innovation workshop as part of the Eighth International Enotourism Conference, aimed at creating a meeting point between the sector's research and business agents. It also participates in several European projects focused on tourism, recycling and food. It offers a course on Enotourism and includes research groups which seek to show the value as a heritage of the protected designation of origin wine cellars of Catalonia. Moreover, the university has a great capacity to provide heritage value to wine production areas, and is also strategically located amongst three of the country's most important protected designation of origin areas: DO Pla de Bages, DO Penedès and DO Alella.
