Projecte de turisme sostenible Sustain-T
The TUDISTAR and GRATS research groups organise a final conference for the European Eramus+ project Sustain-T (Sustainable Tourism through Networking and Collaboration) which will be held on 8 October at the Casa Convalescència in Barcelona. Open to the general public, this free event will serve to present the platform created to help small businesses in the tourism sector become environmentally more sustainable.

A research team from six different countries have worked for two years on the Sustain-T project to create training resources and materials addressed to micro and small businesses of the tourism sector in Europe and favour collaboration initiatives among them. At the project's final conference the results of this work will be presented, captured in a new open access online platform.

The session will include the institutional presentation by Maite Paramio, Assistant to the Vice-Rector for International Relations at the UAB, and an opening conference by Patrick Torrent, Executive Director of the Catalan Tourism Agency. Francesc Romagosa, professor of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management and member of TUDISTAR, will present the results of the project.

There will also be two round tables. The first will include the participation of governmental authorities who will analyse "the role of institutions in the promotion of sustainable tourism". The second will be dedicated to the "role of micro and small businesses working towards sustainable tourism" and will include the participation of entrepreneurs collaborating with the project. Both debates will be moderated by Ivana Miño, presenter of the TV3 programme “Catalunya Experience”.

Dr Gemma Cànoves, director of the research group TUDISTAR at the Department of Geography, will present the conclusions and close the session.

The conference is addressed to professionals from the tourism sector – hotels, restaurants, wholesalers, travel agencies and entertainment service providers - as well as public administrations and students of tourism and hotel management.

Entrance is free, but you must sign up to attend.
