The master's degree in Translational Biomedical Research is designed to train researchers of excellence, equipped with the necessary combination of scientific and medical knowledge and skills to contribute to the success of translational biomedical research in the future. The programme aims to help you enter and become familiar with the world of biomedical research, as well as being the route of access for the doctoral programme.
The most outstanding characteristic of this master's degree is that it is taught integrally at a third level health research institute. Lectures are offered by basic and clinical researchers and doctors who are in constant contact with hospital patients.
The master's degree consists of two very different parts. During the first semester you will enrol in classroom-based theoretical classes. In addition to that, there is a five- to seven-month period in which you will work closely with VHIR researchers, and doctors and patients from the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, to further your academic training and gain professional experience.
Career options
The master's degree provides you with the knowledge and skills needed to become a translational researcher in public and/or private centres of research, as well to develop research activities in R&D&I departments of the pharmaceutical, biotechnological, therapeutic, and medical device and diagnostic industries.
The master's degree is especially focused on research and on those students wishing to continue their training by going on to a PhD programme. Upon completing the master's degree, you will be able to continue on to the PhD programmes in Translational Research, Biomedicine, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medicine, Pharmacology, and other similar programmes. In 2012, the VHIR welcomed more than 200 pre-doctoral students from different universities and 60 PhD theses were directed by the centre's doctors.
