Ideal student profile

Bachelor's degree in any area with a knowledge of the chosen language in which the course is taught (Language A) and excellent knowledge of foreign languages (languages C) in their combinations. Good knowledge of the general culture and an interest in other cultures.
Good communication skills and a passion for languages, an interest in current affairs and great curiosity.
Capacity for concentration and good stress management.
Students should be able to prove the following language levels:
Language A: English or Spanish (native or C2 level of the CertAcles or C2 level of the CEFR)
Languages C: English French, German or Spanish (native or C1 level of CertAcles or C1 level of the CEFR)

Basic skills

  • Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in the development and/or application of ideas, often in a research context.
  • Student should possess the learning skills that enable them to continue studying in a way that is largely student led or independent.
  • Students should know how to apply the knowledge they have acquired and their capacity for problem solving in new or little known fields within wider (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the area of study
  • Students should be able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of making judgements based on information that may be incomplete or limited and includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities associated with the application of their knowledge and judgements
  • Students should know how to communicate their conclusions, knowledge and final reasoning that they hold in front of specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously

Specific skills

  • Understand the theoretical foundations of conference interpreting as an academic discipline.
  • Understand the context of international and intercultural relations as well as their organisations and instruments, with the aim of contextualising communicative processes in which interprets carry out their professional task.
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge of applied economics and law in conference interpreting.
  • Speak competently on a formal and professional level in language A.
  • Speak competently on a formal and professional level in language C.
  • Apply skills and strategies for concentration and memorising (in the short, medium and long term).
  • Understand, analyse and summarise discourses of a general and specialised nature in the working languages, focused on the practice of conference interpreting.
  • Apply note-taking techniques in communicative situations of medium-high complexity.
  • Use consecutive interpreting techniques at a professional level.
  • Use simultaneous interpreting techniques at a professional level.
  • Use sight translation techniques at a professional level.
  • Use methods which allow for the generation of innovative and competitive ideas in the area of research in conference interpreting.
  • Use liaison interpreting techniques at a professional level.
  • Apply professional techniques, rules and standards in interpreting.
  • Apply techniques of documentation and terminological preparation.

Cross-curricular skills

  • Automate strategies for problem solving and decision making under pressure of time.
  • Work in a team, generating synergies in working environments involving different people to work in a coordinated and collaborative way.
  • Manage workload, and plan, organise and control bots execution.
