Study guides

Master description

The master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability has 4 specialisations:

  • Related to the protection of the environment against the potentially harmful effects of human activity and to the improvement of environmental quality in order to achieve greater well-being.
  • Related to sustainable development of systems, optimising and minimising resource use and waste production.
  • Related to impacts of global change and particularly to climate change, and their mitigation.
  • Related to social, economic, biophysical, cultural and ethical issues that intervene in the management of human economies and their interactions with the natural world.
All students must take a compulsory module of 15 ECTS (Interdisciplinary Concepts on Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability). Contents are structured in five blocks: one block that is of interest for any field, namely that of communication and dissemination of science and new lines of research in environmental themes, taught through seminars, and four more blocks offering general content from each of the four areas that make up environmental studies, thus guaranteeing an interdisciplinary approach.

The remainder of the programme consists of compulsory and optional units by specialisation for 6 or 9 ECTS. These modules complete the specialised training in a specific subject area and a master's dissertation module of 15 ECTS. The master's degree is not taught entirely in English, but students who cannot follow the classes in Spanish have an offer of English-medium classes in three of the four specialisations, through the optional modules.

Teaching timetable

Lectures will be held mornings and afternoons at the Faculty of Science.
