The Dra. Nuria Oliver, one of the leading global authorities on artificial intelligence, will open the academic year at the faculty.

Artificial intelligence: fiction, reality and dreams" is the title of the inaugural lesson that Dr will offer. Nuria Oliver next Thursday, October 10 at 4:30 PM in the Aula Magna. The event is part of the inauguration of the new academic year.

The Dra. Oliver is one of the most prestigious scientists in the world in the field of artificial intelligence. He has been recognized as one of the 11 most influential people in this field for Pioneering Minds (2017) as well as a leading technology director (El PAIS, 2012), one of the "100 leaders of the future" (Capital, 2009) and one of the "40 young people who will mark the next millennium" (El PAIS, 1999).

Oliver is Chief Data Scientist at Data-Pop Alliance and Chief Scientific Advisor for the Vodafone Institute. He is a Telecommunications Engineer from UPM and a PhD in Perceptual Intelligence from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Oliver has more than 20 years of research experience at MIT, Microsoft Research (Redmond, WA) and as the first female scientific director to Telefónica I + D (2007-2016) and the first Director of Research in Sciences of Data at Vodafone worldwide (2017-2019).

His work, focused on computational modeling of human behavior using artificial intelligence techniques, person-machine interaction, mobile computing and Big Data analysis -especially focused on the social good- has more than 180 publications scientific 10 of their articles have been nominated or winners of awards to the best scientific article. Núria Oliver is the only Spanish researcher recognized as Distinguished Scientist and Fellow at the same time. He is also a Fellow of IEEE and of the European Association of Artificial Intelligence. Member of the European Academy, of CHI Academy, adviser of the European Commission on matters related to artificial intelligence and member of Global Future Council at the World Economic Forum.

His work has been internationally recognized with numerous prizes, among which are the MIT TR35 Young Innovator Award (2004), Rising Talent Award for the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society (2009), the Ada Byron Award for European Digital Women of the year (2016), the Medal of Business and Social Merit of the Generalitat Valenciana (2017), the National Computing Prize (Cat. Angela Ruiz Robles, 2016), the Engineer of the Year Award for the Official College of Telecommunication Engineers -COIT- (2018) and the Data Scientist of the Year Award (2019) among others.

In addition to his work, he is a great informer and dedicates part of his time to inspiring and encouraging girls to study technology careers. It has 41 patents and has written the chapter "Digital scholars" that is part of the book "Digital natives do not exist" (Deusto, 2017). Dr. Oliver's talk coincided with the start up, this past September, of the new Degree in Interactive Communication at the faculty.
