During the 2025/26 academic year, the 30th anniversary of Spain’s Democratic Criminal Code is being commemorated. To mark this milestone, eight universities across the country have organized a series of conferences taking place from November 23 —the date of its publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE)— to May 24, when it came into effect.
Over these months, participants will reflect on the evolution of criminal policy and the regulation of issues such as economic crime, privacy, gender-based violence, crimes against life, environmental protection, and workers’ rights.
The Criminal Law and Criminology Unit of the UAB will join the initiative with a commemorative event on Wednesday, November 5, at 12:00 p.m., in the Faculty of Law’s Aula Magna.
The event will feature Dr. Mercedes García Arán, Professor of Criminal Law at the UAB and parliamentary adviser during the 1995 debate; Dr. Esther Hava García, Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Cádiz; and Dr. Esther Pomares Cintas, Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Jaén.
This event will offer an opportunity to review thirty years of democratic criminal policy and to reflect on the future challenges of criminal law.
