At the end of the course the students will be able to:

Understand patient’s interactive behaviour according to gender, cultural background, and social context.

Identify social determinants of health.

Understand how health and illness are socially constructed.

Analyse the social inequalities that are manifested from the axes of social inequality and the needs that are derived.

Understand people without prejudice, considering their physical, psychological, and social aspects, and ensuring respect for their opinions, beliefs and values.

Recognize the importance of transcultural nursing and clinical cultural competence.

From Monday to Friday.
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Once a week students will present their narrative photographies and discuss them with the group. (40% of final mark)
In the last week each student will have to hand in a 1500-2000 word written essay (50% of final mark) and a self-assessment report (10% of final mark)
Suggested readings will be provided at the end of each class

Nina Granel Giménez, PhD. Registered nurse with 12 years’ experience in healthcare in Spain and the United Kingdom. Seven years teaching experience at the Nursing Department from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). Research interest on Patient Safety Culture and Clinical Simulation.
