Meeting with journalists winners of the Ortega and Gasset Journalism Awards
Description:
The Faculty of Communication Sciences and the Prisa Group will hold a dialogue with four Latin American journalists who won the Ortega and Gasset Awards for Journalism.
The winners of two of the awards will participate in the day. Salvadoran journalists Bryan Avelar and Juan José Martínez will present the report Moskitia: the Honduran rainforest drowns in cocaine. This project, published in the magazine Insight Crime, won the Best History or Journalistic Research award at the 41st edition of the awards. The journalistic work narrates how the indigenous population of Moskitia, on the border between Honduras and Nicaragua, faces the poverty caused by the robbery of land by drug traffickers.
On the other hand, Mexican journalists Jennifer Gonz'lez Posadas and Alejandro Melgoza Rocha will describe the construction of the special newspaper City without water, a town against the specific giant, winner of the prize for the best multimedia coverage. Published in N+Focus, the report describes the struggle of the people of San Sebasti'n Xoco, who live in the south of Mexico City, in front of a large real estate group.
The Ortega and Gasset awards are awarded annually to the best journalistic works written in Spanish and constitute a very high recognition within the profession. They were created by the newspaper El País, and have been delivered uninterruptedly since 1984.
Attendance at the meeting is open to the entire interested university community.
