The second edition of ExperimentAI, a citizen science project by the Computer Vision Centre (CVC) to experiment with artificial intelligence in public libraries, includes eight dissemination workshops aimed at the public in general which take place from May to September.

The last session, focusing on autonomous vehicles, is entitled “Digital Twins per la conducció del futur” and will allow attendants to discover the artificial intelligence behind self-driving vehicles, as well as the importance of the use of Digital Twins in the research conducted on autonomous driving. During the session, attendants will be able to experience driving using virtual reality and contribute to learning and development. They will also be able to discover the TDA project for autonomous driving on mountain roads. The issues to be touched upon on this session will be mobility and smart cities and women creating AI. The project is launched by the CVC with the support of the Spanish Science and Technology Foundation (FECYT) and the Spanish government. It also includes the collaboration of the Barcelona Libraries Consortium and the Municipal Libraries Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council.

The Institute of the History of Science (iHC) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) invites you to the inaugural conference of the 2023/24 academic year. The conference will be given by Professor Marco Armiero, researcher at ICREA and at the Institute of History of Science and is entitled "Science, power, and narrative justice: The Vajont Dam Disaster (Italy, 1963)". On 9 October 1963, two thousand people died when they were swallowed by a wave of water and mud triggered by a gigantic landslide that sank the Vajont basin. In 2008, UNESCO listed it among the five most serious anthropogenic environmental disasters, describing it as "a classic example of what happens when engineers and geologists are unable to understand the nature of the problem they are trying to address". The Vajont dam is still there, proving that high engineering alone is not enough to avoid a disaster.

Based on his recently published book, La Tragèdia del Vajont. Ecologia politica di un disastro (Einaudi 2023), Marco Armiero uses this case study to decipher the intersection of science, politics and collective memory in the creation of socio-ecological relations. Marco Armiero has worked on issues related to fascism and nature, migration and the environment, and environmental justice. In addition, he is the editor-in-chief of "Resistance: A Journal of Radical Environmental Humanities" (Nebraska UP, formerly Resilience).

The UAB Science and Technology Library organises a workshop in which to practice drawing animals digitally. The workshop will be conducted by Toni Llobet, renowned illustrator who has worked on books such as the Handbook of the Mammals of the World (Lynx Edicions) and on guides to the flora and fauna of natural parks of Catalonia (Brau Edicions).

The workshop is free and will be offered as part of the exhibition organised by the BCT on works by Toni Llobet and also illustrator Blanca Martí.

Under the framework of the UAB Innovation Week this workshop will hold its second edition in which it seeks to give visibility to innovative and entrepreneurial female figures on campus, identify needs and create a network.

The workshop will focus on internal and external limits encountered by researchers and will explore personal experiences, challenges and strategies used to overcome the imposter syndrome and shatter glass ceilings.

Several renowned experts and professionals will be participating by sharing their knowledge, research studies and practical experiences.

The objective of the Erasmus+ INARTdis project is to bring art and culture closer to the public in general as a means to increase social inclusion through spaces of artistic creation that facilitate these types of processes. With this project, which ends now, the organisers aimed to help people with and without disabilities to experience what it is like to produce their own artistic creations in a collaborative manner.

The closing ceremony of the INARTdis project will include the premiere of the documentary ESPAIS CREATIUS INCLUSIUS, by well-known producer Cecilia Barriga, who documented the different creative processes which took place in the six headquarters of the INARTdis project, which included over 80 cultural and socio-educational institutions in Germany, Austria, Cantabria, Catalonia, Northern Macedonia and Portugal. There will also be a moment to discover and share the artistic projects created at the different sites, as well as a highly diverse and awareness-raising fashion show, and a farewell dance.

Andreu Domingo, lecturer and deputy director of the Centre for Demographic Studies at the UAB, presents the book La coartada demográfica y el discurso de la involución en España (Icaria Editorial), of which he is the editor. The presentation will take place on Thursday 2 November in Barcelona. He will be accompanied at the event by the demographer and lecturer in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University, Clara Cortina.

The thesis of the book is that the evolution of the population, the main phenomena of its dynamics - fertility, mortality and migration - as well as its structure, and individual demographic behaviour are being used as an alibi for the discourse of involution promoted by neoconservatives and extreme right-wing populists.

Andreu Domingo Valls, PhD in Sociology and MA in Demography, is the main researcher of the group "Globalisation, migrations and space". He was also president of the Association of Historical Demography (ADEH), which brings together demographers from Spain and Portugal, and is currently a numerary member of the Institute of Catalan Studies (Philosophy and Social Sciences section). He has published several books. His speciality is international immigration and family formation and demographic theory.
