01.25 Col·legi Universitari de Girona

Col·legi Universitari de Girona was established in the mid-1970s in response to the need to provide the Girona region with a stable higher education offering. Promoted by local institutions and supported by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Col·legi initially brought together several existing university schools and served as the coordinating structure for university activity in the area.

During the 1980s, the Col·legi Universitari underwent a process of consolidation and expansion of its academic programmes, while simultaneously strengthening its academic and administrative links with the UAB. This period proved crucial in developing its own teaching and research community and in laying the foundations for a future university in Girona.

The institution became the backbone of the project to establish the Universitat de Girona. When the UdG was legally founded in 1991, the Col·legi Universitari and its affiliated centres were fully integrated into the new university, forming the founding core of the institution.
