CLARIAH-CAT drives Digital Humanities forward in Las Palmas
Catalonia strengthens its presence in Digital Humanities by actively participating in the CLARIAH-ES plenary meeting, presenting initial results and defining roadmaps for the 2025-2027 period.
From 21 to 23 January 2026, Catalan representatives from CLARIAH-CAT, including Maite Melero (BSC) and Oriol Vicente (UAB), will present the structure and projects of the Catalan node in Las Palmas. This ecosystem brings together public universities, centres of excellence, and cultural institutions such as the Biblioteca de Catalunya, with more than 60 research groups involved in knowledge transfer and participatory innovation.
During the meeting, hosted by IATEXT at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, participants will work on coordinating projects such as PressMint, the application of RAG and LLM technologies to research, as well as establishing legal agreements to consolidate the CLARIAH-ES Consortium. The central goal is to put users at the heart of the infrastructures and to launch an Open Research Platform between 2026 and 2028.
The participation of UAB, particularly through its CORE in Cultural Heritage, is crucial to ensuring that cutting-edge research in AI and Digital Humanities translates into practical solutions for the cultural sector and society.
With strategic funding of nearly one million euros from the Generalitat de Catalunya (AGAUR), CLARIAH-CAT is consolidating itself as a key player in Digital Humanities research in Catalonia, ensuring that advances in AI and digital technologies have a tangible impact on cultural heritage and society.
