Teaching and Learning to Understand Contemporary Problems and Conflicts

The project “Teaching and Learning to Interpret Contemporary Problems and Conflicts: What Social Sciences Contribute to the Formation of a Critical Global Citizenship” has two main objectives:

  1. To examine which contemporary problems and conflicts teachers address in their classrooms and how they approach them. Special attention is given to teaching students how to interpret information — particularly that circulating online and on social media — about socially relevant issues, so that they can respond in an informed way by applying critical literacy processes.

  2. To develop and propose criteria that enable students to interpret controversial issues in today’s world, form well-founded opinions, and act responsibly and critically.
