Students and teachers of the four PhDs debate on the construction of an international profile
On February 11, the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Communication Sciences hosted the IV Interdepartmental Doctoral Day, which brought together students and teachers of the four doctoral programs in an afternoon of debate and networking around the shared challenges of the doctoral stage and the construction of an international academic profile.
On February 11, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the IV Interdepartmental Doctoral Conference was held in the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Communication Sciences. The meeting brought together PhD students and teachers in an afternoon dedicated to academic exchange, reflection on research trajectories and the promotion of networking between programs.
The day had a total of 23 participants: 10 face-to-face and 13 online. As for face-to-face assistance, 3 people from the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences, 4 from the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, 1 from the Department of Media, Communication and Culture, and 2 from the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Audiovisual Communication participated.
The programme included a network session, in which doctoral students shared their research topics, challenges and strengths, generating a space for enriching debate between peers. One of the aspects that was highlighted during the day is that, beyond the diversity of research topics, doctoral students share very similar challenges. Among the main difficulties identified are the need to publish in academic journals, the search for participants for studies, data analysis and time management within a context of high scientific demand. This finding favored a feeling of community and mutual support, as it evidenced that these are transversal challenges in the doctoral stage.
One of the central moments of the day was the conference entitled “How to build an international academic career”, by Joan Ramon Rodriguez-Amat, Senior Lecturer at the University of Sheffield (UK). The conference went very well and aroused great interest among the students, who asked numerous questions at the end of the session. The event served to inspire doctoral students in the construction of their international academic career and to offer practical guidance on professional development.
The IV Interdepartmental Doctoral Day was thus consolidated as a meeting and cohesion space between the different doctoral programs, reinforcing the research community of the Faculty.
