Débora Pérez and Olga Pont participated as speakers at the 4th Williams Syndrome Update Conference, held on 19 September 2026 at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB).
The event, organised by the Catalan Williams Syndrome Association (ACSW), brought together professionals and specialists from different disciplines to share advances and experiences in research, care and intervention for people with Williams syndrome.
Williams syndrome, also known as Williams-Beuren syndrome, is a rare genetic condition caused by a microdeletion in the 7q11.23 region of chromosome 7. It is characterised by a complex clinical profile that may include cardiovascular and developmental abnormalities, as well as a distinctive cognitive, neuropsychological and behavioural profile. For this reason, its care requires a multidisciplinary approach throughout the different stages of life.
Débora Pérez gave a presentation entitled “Neuropsychological and behavioural profile of development”, in which she discussed the distinctive features of neuropsychological and behavioural development in people with Williams syndrome. She also moderated one of the sessions focusing on language and psychological aspects.
Olga Pont gave a presentation entitled “What do I want to be when I grow up?”, addressing issues related to the personal and occupational development of people with Williams syndrome.
The participation of members of the Department in this event helps strengthen knowledge transfer between the university, professionals, associations and families, while highlighting the importance of psychological, neuropsychological and developmental perspectives in the comprehensive care of people with Williams syndrome.
