The Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC is the largest international event dedicated to research, treatment, and education on pain. Its 14th edition brought together more than 3,500 healthcare professionals from around the world.
During the congress, Dr. Luciano presented three scientific posters, all centered on the study of chronic pain from a psychological and multidimensional perspective:
- Efficacy of two psychological therapies for different indices of pain-related outcomes derived from ecological momentary assessment Authors: J.P. Sanabria-Mazo, I. Giné-Vázquez, L.M. McCracken, J.V. Luciano This study compares the effects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Behavioral Activation for Depression (BATD) against Treatment as Usual (TAU), using six alternative indices of pain and emotional state through Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA). This work was chosen to be presented orally in one of the “EFIC2025 Poster Prize Sessions”.
- Social Predictions in Chronic Pain Authors: T. Ivancovsky, J.R. Castaño-Asins, S. Cajiao, A. Montes-Pérez, J.V. Luciano, L. Chanes Conducted in collaboration with Dr. Lorena Chanes, also a researcher and lecturer in the department, and Principal Investigator of the Cognitive and Affective Science Laboratory (CAS Lab). This experimental research explores how chronic pain may alter the anticipation of negative social and emotional experiences, such as rejection or disappointment.
- The Stigma Scale for Chronic Illnesses 8-item version (SSCI-8): A longitudinal study assessing its dimensionality, reliability and correlates in a Spanish sample with chronic pain Authors: J.P. Sanabria-Mazo, J. Navarrete, M. Serrat, L.M. McCracken, R. Nieto, J.V. Luciano A psychometric study examining the reliability, structure, and validity of the Spanish version of the SSCI-8, a brief scale that measures internalized and external stigma in individuals with chronic illnesses, in this case, chronic pain.
Dr. Luciano’s participation in the congress highlights the prominent role of the department in interdisciplinary pain research and reaffirms the UAB’s commitment to scientific excellence and the transfer of clinical and social knowledge.
