Presentation "La Mar de Dones "

Forum l’Escala-Empúries, with the support of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, the AHCISP Research Group, the Autonomous Solidarity Foundation and the CORE of Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​together with the NGO AlterNativa-Intercanvi amb pobles Indígenes de Barcelona, ​​l'Escala City Council and l'Escala-Empúries's Cultura, present the Exhibition La Mar de Dones, dedicated to showing the persistent presence and key role of women in the economic, socio-ecological and cultural life of the sea. The exhibition begins on the Costa Brava and the Mediterranean and ends with a display of the active life of women at sea around the world.

The exhibition was curated by Assumpció Vila (CSIC) and Jordi Estévez (UAB).

The exhibition will remain open in the Hall of Columns of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts between 10 and 20 April 2026. The opening ceremony will take place in the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts with an introduction by the curators and a conference by Elena Manera, Owner of an artisanal fishing boat in Port de la Selva, on Friday 10 April at 1pm. At 12pm there will be a guided tour of the exhibition.

As part of the exhibition, two other conferences will be presented:

  • On Thursday 16, at 11:30am, with Mar Casariego, Captain of SOS Mediterranée in room 111.
  • On Friday 17 at 1pm, in room 113, with Mònica Martínez Mauri, Anthropologist, Serra Hunter Associate Professor at the UB and specialist in indigenous peoples and the sea.
