UAB Research Park welcomes EnergIoT at the Eureka Building

Detalls

EnergIoT is a spin-ff from the Institut de Microelèctrica de Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC), with a stellar trajectory within the piezoelectric structure sector, developing miniature, intelligent, autonomous sensorial nodes. With a close relationship with the UAB Researk Park since its inception at the Engega program, the company is moving now into the Eureka building, to keep enjoying the benefits that come with being located physically in a scene full of research and innovation.

In 2017, EnergIoT won first prize at Cleantech Camp, a program promoted by InnoEnergy, Gas Natural Fenosa, Barcelona Activa and the Lisbon Municipal Chamber of Commerce. Since then, the company has done nothing but keep on going towards their goal of developing new materials that harness the environmental energy to permanently power small, autonomous sensors, so that they don’t need batteries. These pieces are piezoelectric materials that harness the mechanical energy dissipated in the environment, so it becomes electricity.

The possible applications of this energy are many: back in 2022, EnergIoT designed a pilot with an autonomous dispositive to help avoid birds and other animal species get electrocuted in electric networks, and other related causalities. Other pilot projects took place in New Caledonia, Italy, and Asturias.
