The Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives presents the exhibition “Puck: The impertinent question. Caldés i Arús, pioneer of the literary interview in Catalan”. Visit it on the ground floor of the library!

The enigmatic “Puck”Vicenç Caldés i Arús (1886-1969)– was the first in Catalonia and throughout the country to bet, in the magazine Teatràlia, in 1910, on the literary interview of a character: It was a genre that was already successful in the United States and Great Britain, and which became a recurrent media format until today. This form of interview portrays celebrities in intimacy and is also considered an impertinent, somewhat rude genre, related to the liberality of customs and modernity. The genre indicates the consolidation of the new industrial press, informative and more visual, and of mass culture and society.

In this exhibition we present the discovery of the first series of interviews in Catalan in the context of that rising mass press, as well as an overview of the genre, and we pay attention to the magazine Teatràlia and the character of Caldés i Arús.
