Les científiques i enginyeres que vindran

To celebrate February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Library organizes jointly with the School of Engineering and the Faculties of Biosciences and Sciences, with the support of the Observatory for Equality, this exhibition, between February 9 and March 8, 2024.

12/02/2024

An exhibition that can be seen both in the Library and in the School of Engineering. Through images generated by artificial intelligence, the current imbalance can be seen in terms of the average number of permanent research professors in the three centers: 68% male staff, 32% female. And, on the other hand, we want to make the visitor reflect on what the scientists and engineers who will fill our buildings will be like in the future.

Associated with the exhibition, the Espai BCT will host the following initiatives:

- Bibliographic exhibition "Scientists disseminate science!", from February 5 to March 8, with varied and informative literary proposals written by or about women scientists, by the BCT

- "Scikus with perspective", on February 13, at 1 p.m. Debate and reading of these poems that combine science and haikus as a means of making women scientists known. Activity organized by the BCT and the Catalan Association of Scientific Communication (ACCC).

- Colloquium “The scientists and engineers who will come”, on February 20, at 1:30 p.m., around artificial intelligence and the opportunity that arises for the involvement of women under conditions of equality from the beginning. Participating are Alexandra Gómez Villa, doctoral student in computer vision at the CVC, Júlia Laguna, graduate in Mathematics and Physics, winner of a Wonnow scholarship from LaCaixa and Microsoft for women in STEM, and Patricia Ayma, president and director of Technology at VEnvirotech Biotechnology.

- "Hypatia Mars, exploring the future of space", February 27, at 1:30 p.m. Talk about the experience of the Hypatia I crew and presentation of the new challenge that the second crew will face, by Neus Sabaté, from the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC) and Helena Arias, student of 'Mechanical Engineering and UPC Electronics.

- Finally, a related activity that will be carried out outside the BCT Space, Women's Self-Defense Workshop, March 13, at 5 p.m., in collaboration with the University's Physical Activity Service, in its sports facilities. Places limited by order of registration.
