The title of his paper is: "Evaluating Retail Fuel Subsidies: Dynamic Price Effects and Consumer Impact"
Summary: To mitigate the impact of the increase in the price of crude oil following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Spanish government introduced a subsidy aimed at reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by twenty euro cents per litre. Some major operators received a subsidy of 75% of the part of the mandatory discount that had to be shown on the bill, while other operators were subsidized the entire discount. In this paper we aim to assess whether the fuel subsidy was fully passed on to consumers in the first three months after implementation. Our results suggest that service stations did not fully transfer the subsidy received to the final bill, especially in the diesel market. The appropriation of the subsidy was noticed in the case of stations that received a higher amount per liter of diesel sold. In addition, we also explore whether the price response of retailers to the subsidy depended on the degree of local competition and multimarket contacts between retailers.
