According to the Ranking Web of World Universities (Webometrics), which evaluates university websites around the world, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona occupies position number 20 in Europe and number 91 in the world. The UAB comes in second among universities in Spain, behind the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ranks third in Spanish universities, and comes in 25th position in the European ranking and 98th in the world ranking.
The report, prepared by the CSIC research group The Cybermetrics Lab, shows the results for four indicators: Presence, which measures the volume of information published on the web; Impact, based on links posted in other websites; Aperture, which counts the number of documents available on the website, and Excellence, which includes quality articles belonging to the 10% most cited articles of each specialisation.
The UAB website is the third in the world with regard to the number of accessible documents and second in Spain in scientific excellence, after UB. In addition, the UAB Deposit of Digital Documents occupies tenth place in the world according to the Ranking Web of World Repositories conducted by the same research group.
Only the Universidad Complutense de Madrid surpasses UAB in Spanish universities represented in the fourteenth edition of this ranking. The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya ranks third in Spanish universities, and comes in 25th position in the European ranking and 98th in the world ranking. The ranking of European universities is topped by Cambridge, while the world ranking is led by Harvard.
The July edition includes almost 21,000 higher education institutions from around the world, classified in accordance to their academic and research performance, the international prestige and visibility, and their commitment to open access policies.
