Visit of EU Commissioner for the Environment to ICTA
On Friday 21 of March 2014 Mr Janez Potocnik, EU Commissioner for the Environment, paid a visit to ICTA. At 15:00h he was given a brief tour in the new building of ICTA, accompanied by ICTA director Jordina Belmonte, former director Louis Lemkow, UAB vice-rector for Research Pilar Dellunde Clavé, vice-Rector for Strategic Projects and Planning Lluís Tort Bardolet, and director of CADS (the Advisory Board for Sustainable Development of Catalonia) Mr Arnau Queralt. At 15:30h, a symposium was organized. This represented the first public meeting in the new building, which took place in the large lecture room. Jeroen van den Bergh, deputy director research of ICTA, started with a concise overview of the 21 research lines of ICTA as well as of core indicators of ICTA¿s research performance. Next, three EU projects of ICTA were presented, namely EJOLT by Beatriz Rodriguez-Labajos, MEDSEA by Patrizia Ziveri and TESS by Isabelle Anguelovski. This was followed by short discussions of two other EU projects by external researchers, namely RISES-AM by Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla from LIM-UPC and Globaqua by Alicia Navarro from ICRA. The meeting ended with a short statement by the EU commissioner. He indicated that he was impressed by the research undertaken at ICTA and wished us much luck in our future research endeavours.
