The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) recently published a new ranking of Spanish and international female researchers working in Spain's research centres and universities who have a public profile on Google Scholar. The aim of the ranking is to highlight female talent and increase the visibility of female researchers and their work. The 5,600 authors listed include 8 from the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

ICTA-UAB anthropologist Victoria Reyes-García ranks 89th on the list. The list also includes, in order of ranking position, ICTA-UAB female researchers Patrizia Ziveri, Isabelle Anguelovski, Jordina Belmonte, Gara Villalba, Mariana Walter, Sandra Bukkens and Anna Petit-Boix.

The list shows who are the most cited researchers to date based on indicators from one of the major databases for academic content, Google Scholar. The profiles are ranked by the h index, and the total number of citations are taken into account as a secondary criterion in cases of a tie. The h index is a metric for evaluating the cumulative impact of an author's scholarly output and performance; measuring quantity with quality by comparing publications to citations.

According to Isidro F. Aguillo, an expert in the evaluation of science and the ranking's editor, "this study aims to enhance the visibility of the work done by female researchers and is part of the CSIC's policies for equality and diversity. It is a step towards transparency and an effort publicly to acknowledge the contributions made by our female researchers."

The CSIC list, which forms part of the Ranking Web of Universities, only includes authors who have a single Google Scholar profile which includes their UAB email address.
