TWO PHD POSITIONS – SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES

The Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (ICTA-UAB), is looking for two highly motivated individuals who can develop frontier PhD research on global environmental challenges.

They will help us advance our Strategic Research Program by working on one of or across the following topics:

  • Understanding the impacts of climate and global change on oceanic and coastal systems to develop pathways towards sustainable and equitable interactions with marine environments and their resources;
  • Analyzing the combined effects of climate and other drivers of global environmental change on the sustainability of rural landscapes and livelihoods;
  • Advancing actions and projects for climate-responsive, equitable, and healthy cities and urban systems;
  • Examining how processes of production and consumption of goods and services result in environmental impacts and affect human wellbeing and technological transitions;
  • Investigating effective and equitable cross-scale policies, institutions and social responses to address global environmental change.


Minimum required skills:

  • Undergraduate and MSc degrees in a discipline of the Earth/Environmental Sciences, Technology and Engineering, or the Social Sciences;
  • Proficiency in English (compulsory) and Spanish/Catalan (desirable);
  • Experience in research projects and publication record (desirable).

Selected applicants will be duly informed and subsequently invited to receive a PhD grant from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Starting date: April 2021.
