The Observatori de la Tordera awarded a Water Prize
The Observatori de la Tordera, promoted by the ICTA-UAB through its Nycticorax research group, received on 20 March one of the 2018 Water Prizes. The award was conferred on the observatory by the Catalan Association of Friends of Water in recognition for its numerous scientific and academic achievements in the Tordera river basin.
The Prize was awarded coinciding with the celebrations of World Water Day and aims to stimulate, in a non-monetary way, all those initiatives, actions and trajectories related to improving the relationship Catalonia's inhabitants have with water and its natural surroundings.
The awarding of the prizes is carried out through a process of consultation among all partners, who then submit their proposals to a jury which is appointed by the directive board of the Catalan Association of Friends of Water and is made up of renowned people from the field of water management in Catalonia.
The Tordera observatory is a project promoted by the ICTA-UAB, the Besòs Tordera Consortium, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the towns of Sant Celoni, Arbúcies, Hostalric, Santa Maria de Palautordera and Malgrat de Mar. The project carries out long-term monitoring of indicators of socio-ecological status in the Tordera basin, focusing its studies on biological, hydrological and social research lines in the main course of the river and the Arbúcies stream.
