Research & Degrowth awarded for disseminating Degrowth

The association Research and Degrowth (http://www.degrowth.org), which includes several members of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), has received the seventh edition of the "Award for dissemination of Degrowth”, given by the Comisión de la Agenda Latinoamericana Mundial to recognize communities or people that work to give visibility to this movement as an alternative to unlimited growth.



The organizers stress their commitment to publicize the principles of “Degrowth” through publications, educational and audio-visual material as well as the organization of courses and conferences. These activities include the organization of Summer School on Degrowth and Environmental Justice. The “Degrowth” is a political, economic and social concept that opposes the current political consensus on economic growth. Sustainable degrowth is a downscaling of production and consumption that increases human well-being and enhances ecological conditions and equity on the planet. It calls for a future where societies live within their ecological means, with open, localized economies and resources more equally distributed through new forms of democratic institutions.
