The students of the master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA-UAB), performed an activity next Wednesday 5 April to raise funds for more than the 700,000 people affected by the climatic phenomenon “El Niño Costero”.

The initiative took place in the Plaça Cívica of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, from 11 am to 3 pm. Students raised funds by selling a typical Peruvian layered potato dish called Causa, made with yellow potatoes, lemon, peppers, mayonnaise and filled with meat, chicken or vegetables.

All the money collected will be donated to the inhabitants of the areas most affected by the “El Niño Costero” through the Peruvian consulate.

During the period of this phenomenon, the water temperature in the coastal zone of Ecuador and Peru increases, generating torrential rains that affect the inhabitants of both countries and cause significant damages on houses and roads.
