ICTA-UAB to give a course on coastal ecosystem management in Brazil
The Department of Geography and the Institute of Marine Sciences (Labomar) of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) will offer the School of Advanced Studies (EAE) "Coastal Ecosystems Management and Global Change: theory and practice from interdisciplinarity” from June 21 to July 17.
The event will take place at the UFC Campus in Fortaleza (Northeast Brazil) and will include the participation of ICTA-UAB professors and researchers Sergio Rossi, Patrizia Ziveri and Isabel Ruiz Mallén, renowned scientists with publications in high impact International journals.
The course is aimed at postgraduate students interested in the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, coastal management and the adaptation of communities to environmental risks.
The international school is funded by the Brazilian government (CAPES) and students will develop essential skills, through theoretical and practical lessons (fieldwork on the northeastern coast of Brazil). They will be provided with methodological tools needed to conduct quantitative and qualitative research. The difference of the proposal lies in the global interdisciplinary approach with local and regional connections. Also, the aim is to generate long-term cooperation between European and Brazilian universities in high quality research and postgraduate education.
