ICTA-UAB researchers talked about ecological economics and political ecology in China

Prof Joan Martinez Alier and Federico Demaria, researchers from the EnvJustice project at ICTA-UAB were invited by the College of Humanities and Social Development, Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU), Yangling, Shaanxi, China for collaborations on research and seminar sessions on ecological economics and political ecology. They were invited through ICTA-UAB researcher Dr Juan Liu, and they gave two presentations.



Besides these two seminar sessions, there were informal interactions with a local environmental NGO concerned about coal-fired power plants, and with students about the geographical understanding of environmental justice issues in China. Students were quite interested in the topics of ecological economics, political ecology, they posted reflections through Wechat, QQ and other channels. 



Meetings were scheduled on Wednesday 23 May with the College of Economics at NWAFU, and a talk on environment and health with the director of a foundation for caring for Pneumoconiosis patients on Thursday 24. Joan Martinez-Alier gave another talk in Nanjing, Hohai University on Saturday 27 May.
