First activities of Master¿s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic and Social Sustainability
DEGREE¿S INAUGURATION Last 15th September, Prof Jorge Wagensberg offered the master¿s degree inaugural conference. He is a physicist, a scientific adviser, former Director of the Science Musuem of Barcelona (1991-2005) and was awarded with the St George Cross in 2007. At present, he supervises the museographic project of the Hermitage Museum in Barcelona. The conference, entitled ¿To Love is To Know (a Landscape)¿, taught us about the importance of language and communication in science. Prof Louis Lemkow, former ICTA¿s Director and one of the master¿s degree teacher, introduced the ceremony. FIELD TRIP TO ALINYÀ On 1st, 2nd and 3rd October, as part of the first module of the master¿s degree, students and a group of teachers from ICTA and experts from the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera went on a field trip to Alinyà Valley. Among other activities, they studied the livestock in the Alinyà Valley and the management of pastures; the making of a more dynamic economy in Alinyà Valley; the project for CO2 fixation and the experimental project on the cultivation of quinoa and potato; the project LIFE operation CO2: apple plantation combined with other species to increase CO2 fixation in the framework of the LIFE project; the sustainable use of the local environment and practical interpretation of the landscape from a socio-ecological perspective; the project on the reintroduction of the black vulture.
