The Project ¡AJA! (Audiovisuals and Environmental Justice), promoted by the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and the Universidad del Magdalena (UNIMAG), with the collaboration of the Universidad del Valles (UNIVALLE), organizes the docu-conference ‘Audiovisuals and Environmental Justice’ in Santa Marta, Colombia, between March 15th-17th, 2017.

During the docu-conference, attendants will watch great documentaries and photographic exhibitions. Together with audiovisual producers, and national and international experts, they will discuss about the conflict on coal extraction in the Caribean coast of Colombia, and the environmental situation of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, and how audiovisuals can contribute to promote transformation towards environmental justice in these contexts.

The Project Audiovisuals and Environmental Justice (¡AJA! for its Spanish acronym) aims at better understanding and promoting the use of audio-visuals (namely videos, participatory mapping and photography) in environmental justice research. This is done in collaboration between ICTA-UAB and the Universidad del Magdalena (UNIMAG), Colombia. ¡AJA! focusses on the struggle of social movements and indigenous peoples to defend their rights from coal mining expansion and from corporate pressures to wetlands.
