Degrowth research has made important progress in identifying policy pathways that could improve human wellbeing outcomes while reducing environmental pressures. However, assessing these pathways remains challenging because wellbeing is multidimensional, its determinants are highly interdependent, and the evidence underlying policy impacts is heterogeneous, often qualitative, and uncertain. This presentation will introduce a probabilistic framework within a hypothesized causal network. This network integrates empirical evidence with qualitative information that allows effects of policy on wellbeing to be understood and compared across multiple dimensions with propagated uncertainty. This framework could enable modelers to identify different post-growth policy configurations that increase the probability of achieving high wellbeing outcomes. 

Bineh Ndefru is a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals. In her research, Bineh is using novel probabilistic methods to model wellbeing outcomes of post-growth scenarios.
