Event details

Dr Andreas Malm, who is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Human Geography, University of Lund (Sweden) is visiting Barcelona between June 11 and June 14. He is the author of books such as 'Fossil Capital'; 'Corona, Climate and Chronic Emergency'; 'How to Blow Up a Pipeline', and most recently has collaborated with The Zetkin Collective to write 'White Skin, Black Fuel: On the Danger of Fossil Fascism'. We invited him to come to ICTA-UAB and he looks forward to having an in-person conversation with ICTA-UAB folks on this latest book and on fossil capital, climate activism more generally. Andreas will read a short passage from the book to start the conversation. It will be great if participants can read the book before the session!

Topic: Fossil Fascism, Fossil Capital, Climate Emergency, Anti-capitalist Climate Action

Date: Monday, June 14, 2021
Time: 4:00 -5:30 PM
Venue:  Z/023 & Z/022

Format:

We would like the session’s format to be informal and conversational so as to encourage a dialogue between him and us. Given that and in light of COVID-19 situation, we are unfortunately forced to restrict the number of people to 20, which is the current upper limit for the room Z/022-23. We will also broadcast the discussion via zoom and will send the link for that closer to date.

To participate: Those interested in attending in-person please sign up here and participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis. In case there are more entries than spaces, apologies in advance for not accommodating you but this is beyond our control; we hope you can then instead join on zoom.

For those who are unable to participate in this conversation, Andreas is also involved in other events during his time in the city. One of them is being organised by the FINESTRES library on the 11th of June at 7:00 PM at their Diputacio 249 branch. This will be a conversation between Andreas and Catalan scholar Andreu Escrivà with simultaneous English and Catalan translations. Please find more details and register for free here
