In a context where biotechnology, gene editing, emerging and re-emerging diseases, resistance to antibiotics, pandemics, gene therapies, new vaccines, biobanks, synthetic biology, gain of functions or bioterrorism, among others are becoming increasingly relevant, so is the need for an expert professional profile in biological risk management.

This course (theoretical-practical) is the starting point towards a more specific training in biosafety that allows obtaining the necessary skills to develop a professional career as a biosafety technician.

Organized by the Faculties of Biosciences and Veterinary Medicine of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), it has the collaboration of the Biosafety Committee (CBS) of the UAB, the Center for Research in Animal Health (CReSA) and the Center for Research in Agrigenomics (CRAG), located on the UAB campus itself and with reference biocontainment facilities that can be visited.

The course is preferably aimed at biosafety managers, occupational risk prevention technicians, laboratory managers, graduates and professionals from the biomedical, biotechnological, veterinary and agri-food sectors who wish to acquire basic knowledge on biosafety and biocontainment, in its biological aspects, technical and regulatory.

The course program is designed in accordance with the principles of the UNE-CWA 16335:2014 standard "Competencia del profesional en bioseguridad" and is endorsed by the Spanish Biosafety Association (AEBioS). The course has a highly specialized and experienced teaching staff (18), belonging to different universities, research centers and companies in the sector.
