Eighth edition of the #científiques
Description:
The Aula Magna of the Casa Convalescència UAB this year will host the #científiques sessions, which will take place on 27 January from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. This initiative is launched by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology. Female scientists from public and private entities in Catalonia, as well as sixth-grade primary and first-grade secondary school students from Catalan schools, can participate.
The programme will include a talk on particle colliders by Tamara Vázquez, researcher at the IFAE, and a debate on the presence of female scientists in the media, with the participation of journalists Pampa García and Cristina Sáez, as well as lecturers Sandra Acosta and Anna Sánchez. In addition, at the end of the meeting, institutional speeches will be given by Javier Lafuente, rector of the UAB; Esther Niubó, minister for Education and Professional Training; and Núria Montserrat, minister for Research and Universities.

XLIII Call for Applications - Information session for PDI and PTGAS
Description:
Information session addressed to UAB PDI and PTGAS interested in applying for the XLIII Call for Applications, aimed at supporting projects that analyze and transform the causes of major global challenges.

The global far right and the fabrication of ideas: protests and Ferraz's 'performance' in Valencia
Description:
The UAB Research Group on Dictatorships and Democracies (GReDD-CEDID) organises a seminar entitled The global far-right and the manufacturing of ideas: protests and performance by Ferraz in Valencia, which will be held on 27 January. David Rodríguez-Solás, professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will participate. The session forms part of the training activities of the PhD programme in Comparative, Political and Social History.

Conference: "From Fragmented Society to Shared Hope"
Description:
The UAB Department of Anthropology and Caritas organise the FOESSA Catalunya conference, entitled "De la societat fragmentada a l'esperança compartida", which will be conducted by journalist Yolanda Marzabal from the TV3 news section on Society.
The institutional welcome will be offered at 10:00 a.m. by Salvador Busquets, president of Caritas, who will give way to the presentation of the Report on Exclusion and Social Development in Catalonia by Raúl Flores, technical secretary of the FOESSA Foundation, and Miriam Feu, general secretary and coordinator of the Observatory of Social Reality of Càritas Catalunya. In addition to them, this report was coordinated by UAB lecturer and director of the UAB Anthropology Department, Hugo Valenzuela-García, and member of the FOESSA Foundation, Thomas Ubrich.
Following that, different research articles will be presented through a dialogue with some of their authors. Thus, at 12:00 noon there will be a round table on Housing and Minimum Income; after lunch, at 2:35 p.m., another on The Inheritance of Poverty; and at 3:50 p.m . the closing session will take place, entitled The Future We Are Building.
Different research staff from the UAB will participate throughout the day (as well as researchers from other universities and entities): Margarita León, professor of Political Science and director of the Institute of Government and Public Policies of the UAB; Miranda Jessica Lubbers, professor of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the UAB (GRAFO); Sara Moreno-Colom, lecturer of the Department of Sociology of the UAB and researcher at the Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT-UAB), and the Institute for Labour Studies (IET-UAB); and Hugo Valenzuela-García, professor of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the UAB (GRAFO).
The FOESSA Foundation is a private, non-profit, state-level institution founded by Caritas Spain, which aims to serve general interests in the field of research and dissemination of social issues.

Blended Intensive Programme + Masterclass 2026
Description:
Since 2019, the UAB has participated through the Master in European Integration in the "Cross-border Masterclass and Dialogue of Disciplines", a joint initiative by 18 universities in Germany, France and Italy. The activity brings together students from different disciplines who work on a common theme and culminates in a three-day face-to-face meeting. This year, the Masterclass will take place at the UAB on 28, 29 and 30 January. Moreover, the BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) + Masterclass will take place throughout the week, from Monday 26 to Friday 30 January, with academic activities scheduled on all days.
On 28 January, the inaugural session of the Masterclass will take place, focused on cross-border cooperation from a global and European perspective. During the afternoon, the participating universities will be presented and two international forums on cross-border cooperation will be held, with speakers from Europe, Africa and Latin America. Some of the participants of the first session will be Jean-Marie Katubadi-Bakenge and Jean-Marie Melchior (University of Burundi), Eduardo Giugliano-Garcia (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais) and Bernard Reitel (University of Artois).
