Inauguration of the academic year at the Faculty of Biosciences
Description:
Jaime Martínez, professor of Genetics in the UAB Department of Genetics and Microbiology, will give the inaugural conference entitled "Changing pathogens in a changing world. Novel genomic approaches to predict how pathogens survive and thrive in a changing climate". The conference forms part of the inauguration of the 2025/26 academic year at the Faculty of Biosciences and will take place on 13 October at 1:00 p.m. at the faculty's conference halls. The event will include a recognition for the final projects presented and a tribute to the best academic trajectories of the bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and Biotechnology by the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. There will also be institutional speeches by the rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente, and the dean of the Faculty, Isidre Gibert.

Dependent censoring in survival analysis: from basic concepts to some recent advances based on copulas
Description:
In commemoration of World Statistics Day, a date to emphasise the fundamental role of statistics in the development of knowledge and decision-making, several activities have been scheduled in the Faculty of Science.
On 15 October, the magazine Sort, Idescat and the Catalan Statistical Society are organising the Statistical Short Course “Dependent censoring in survival analysis: from basic concepts to some recent advances based on copulas”. The course will be given by Ingrid Van Keilegom, from the Operations Research and Statistics Research Group of the Faculty of Economics and Business of KU Leuven. The activity is free, but prior registration is required to attend.

Nilda Flores-González, John O. Whiteman Dean's Distinguished Professor and sociology professor at Arizona State University, and Irsaema Coronado, director of the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University, will offer a conference entitled "Among walls and promises: the human price of political decisions in the US and Mexico". the conference iwl ltake place on 14 October at 11 a.m. at the meetings hall of the MRA building (Plaça del Coneixement). The event is organised by the UAB's GEDIME research group (CER Migracions).

Inauguration of the academic year at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies
Description:
Economist Elena Flores will deliver the lecture "Evolution of the economy and global governance during the past three decades" at the institutional inauguration of the 2025/26 academic year of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies. The event will take place on 14 October at 12:30 p.m. in the faculty's conference hall.
Elena Flores holds a degree in Economics from the UAB and has worked many years in several European institutions. Among the positions she has held is Deputy Director General for Investment and International Affairs of the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission. The opening ceremony of the academic year will also include recognition for the teaching staff with the best results in the teaching evaluation surveys and for the students with the best academic records of the Faculty in the 2024/25 academic year. UAB Rector Javier Lafuente and Faculty Dean Àlex Rialp will give the institutional speeches.

The UAB's First Artistic Heritage Campus Research Conference
Description:
The aim of the First Artistic Heritage Campus Research Conference is to promote synergies between the University and the organisations making up this network, inviting participating institutions to present their ongoing research projects and propose new lines of research related to the collections, which could be developed in the final degree projects (TFG) and final master theses (TFM) of the studies linked to the Campus.
The conference, aimed at undergraduate and master's students affiliated with the Artistic Heritage Campus network, consists of three sessions which will include the participation of several museum directors and local institutional representatives.
The conference is free and no prior registration is required.

Session on "Ten Years of University and Refuge"
Description:
This October marks ten years since the statement "Catalan universities: on the side of the refugees" was published by the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP). In many ways, the document marked the starting point of university programmes created to defend and give support to people who were being forced to seek refuge in another country.
This session is organised by the UAB Refugee Programme, and aims to ba a space for collective reflection and networking by Catalonia's public universities, civil society and the public administration.
The activity forms part of the work plan of the Technical Network for Cooperation, Volunteering and Refuge of the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia and includes the support of the Catalan Development Cooperation Agency (ACCD).
