Mari Walls of Tampere University in Finland, and Jan-Ingvar Jönsson of Linköping University in Sweden, have been selected Vice President and Tresurer of the ECIU in an online meeting which took place on 17 June. The Presidium, led by UAB Vice Rector for International Relations Màrius Martínez, also includes Tom Veldkamp from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, as Erasmus+ coordinator of the ECIU University.

"Together we will work on building an innovative European university based on our DNA: challenging conventional ways of thinking and having a true and real impact on Europe and beyond."

Jan-Ingvar Jönsson from Linköping University in Sweden will take over from Vice Rector Màrius Martínez, who had been the ECIU's treasurer until the month of March.

New Vice President Mari Walls, from Tampere University in Finland, thanked her predecessor Per Michael Johansen from Aalborg University in Denmark, and talked about the “strategic decisions” that are bound to make “the ambitious ECIU University a full reality”.

The new Presidium will work closely on the transition of the network of universities towards a joint future as a fully functioning European university that interacts within an open European ecosystem of industries and SMEs, student-led NGOs, regions and municipalities. The ECIU's Presidium will play a crucial role in transmitting the Vision 2030 goals internally to the ECIU and externally to groups of interest and acceleratingv related processes.

During the next few months, the ECIU Board will set down relevant strategic guidelines, and ECIU President Màrius Martínez is confident that a strong Presidium is what will lead this change. In this sense, President Martínez explained that the ECIU needs now to “face the enormous challenge of making the ECIU University a reality, setting a new example of higher education in Europe and the world”. He went on to add, “The new Presidium is now reinforced, with four members, and I am deeply honoured to work with three important university rectors. Together we will work on building an innovative European university based on our DNA: challenging conventional ways of thinking and having a true and real impact on Europe and beyond."
