The micro-modules offered by the different members of the ECIU University differ from the challenges in that they are short training pills that allow students to delve deeper into the key aspects of the United Nations’ SDG11: “Sustainable cities and communities”, gain additional skills to help solve challenges and even learn another language. The UAB currently offers four micro-modules.

Students can choose from any of the micro-modules offered by the different European member universities.

The ECIU University launches a total of 8 new micro-modules offered by its different member universities. Those interested can already register through the new platform to any of the new courses, covering a diversity of subjects such as citizen science, artificial intelligence, languages, etc.

Micro-modules are training pills with different duration periods depending on the workload, that allow students to acquire the fundamental skills needed to solve ECIU University challenge-based courses, learn the ins and outs of sustainable cities and communities (SDG11) and learn a new language.

Although the ECIU University micro-modules and challenges are connected, these two elements function independently: enrolling in a micro-module can be useful to solve a challenge in a related field, but it is also possible to enrol in only one of the two course types depending on the preferences and needs of each student.

To sign up, the ECIU University has created a new platform with a list of all micro-modules offered in 2023, course modality (classroom-based, online or blended), admission requirements, registration procedures and deadlines, which vary according to the micro-module and university offering the course.

Micro-modules at the UAB

The UAB currently offers four micro-modules: “Citizen Science, a Practical Approach for Methods and Tools”, in which public participation in science, participative data supplying, volunteering, etc. Is explored; “Gender as a Cross-cutting Tool for Understanding, Diagnosing, and Solving Challenges”, in which students can identify and understand the key concepts of feminist thought and how to apply the gender and queer perspective to the analysis of social challenges, and “Language Studies - Catalan“ and “Language Studies – Spanish”, with different language levels to choose from.

New challenges

The ECIU University offers five new challenge-based learning courses which are currently open for registration: The Sustainable Wine Race and The Flowers Gourmet Hackathon, offered by the University of Trento; School education on conscious consumption and waste disposal and Consumer Digital Engagement for Energy Sustainability, offered by Kaunas University of Technology; and Innovative Entrepreneurship at the Linköping University.
