"No em toquis la llengua", new UAB campaign in defense of the Catalan language

“No em toquis la lengua” is both an awareness-raising and inspirational campaign. Firstly, it aims to clearly state the University’s position in favour of the Catalan language. Secondly, it aims to be an inspirational campaign that values the richness of the language through a series of authentic and uniquely Catalan words.

These are some of the words starring in this year’s campaign: “No em toquis la llengua” [Don’t touch my language/tongue]. Members of the university community will find these words decorating different parts of the UAB campus.

The campaign will also include merchandising, which members will be able to find at the UAB store: a cotton tote bag with “No em toquis la llengua” stamped on it, ideal for shopping or carrying lecture notes around campus, and many more fun products, such as T-shirts by Borinot and Torracollons and the Bandarra cup, and other more protest-driven products, such as the Dempeus cups.

Firstly, it aims to clearly state the University’s position in favour of the Catalan language after the latest attacks by both the political and legal sectors, such as the attacks directed on Catalonia’s language immersion method. Secondly, it aims to inspire the community by demonstrating the richness of the language through a series of authentic and uniquely Catalan words.

"Climate Emergency: the UAB Acts!". "Let’s take care of each other at the UAB". "The UAB committed to health". These are all campaigns launched in the 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22 academic years. Each year, the University publicly announces its position on a current event through an awareness-raising campaign that can be resumed in one slogan... but it is never just a slogan! Based on each year’s motto, a whole series of activities are held during the year to share and communicate this position. It is a way for the UAB to reaffirm its mission as a public university and leader in international rankings, as well as its role as a transformational university: supportive, diverse and egalitarian, healthy and sustainable, participative and full of culture.
