UAB Languages Barcelona at IATEFL Conference in Glasgow

The conference will take place at the lovely city of Glasgow, Scotland.

Two of our senior teachers at UAB Languages Barcelona will be speaking at the 51st IATEFL Conference in Glasgow.
Kieran Donaghy has been invited to speak at both the Literature Special Interest Group Pre-Conference Event on how to use film to teach English, and the Global Issues Special Interest Group Pre-Conference Event on how to use short films to promote empathy and awareness of global issues in language education on Monday 3rd April. In addition, Kieran will be speaking on the role of empathy in the language classroom at the main conference on Thursday 6th April. In this session, Kieran will examine the importance of empathy in language education and propose practical activities to encourage teachers, teacher trainers and students to be more empathetic.
On Tuesday 4th April, Mark McKinnon will be presenting a joint talk titled Making pronunciation an integral part of your classroom practice. The talk will support a teach pronunciation blog that Mark and his teacher trainer colleague Nicola Meldrum are writing. The blog is https://teachpronunciation.blog/. Mark and Nicola will look at some simple strategies for making pronunciation a smoother, more consistent part of teaching and how they can integrate prununciation when using aythentic materials. They will show how teachers can anticipate pronunciation problems learners will eran will examine have with the language, materials and tasks they are using, and think of effective solutions.
