Video games are a key cultural product of the 21st century, engaging a wide range of audiences, both young and adult. Video games have potential beyond entertainment, serving as a valuable tool in diverse fields such as healthcare and education, among many others, by leveraging their defining features, such as simulation capabilities and the promotion of learning through interaction. The creation of video games brings together different professional profiles (designers and programmers, as well as professionals from fields such as psychology, medicine, physiotherapy, audiovisual communication, history, digital humanities, economics, etc.), each contributing their expertise to this audiovisual and interactive product.

In recent years, Catalonia has become an important international hub, creating an ecosystem of studios, training centers, incubators, and institutions committed to promoting video games across all fields.

For years, the UAB has had research groups that use and analyze video games as a valuable working tool for their research. These groups work on different aspects of video games such as accessibility, psychology, learning, communication, and technology. From this background and generated knowledge arises this micro-credential, which aims to provide a cross-cutting perspective on video games and is aimed both at video game professionals—who can discover a didactic, accessible, psychological, or humanistic approach—and at professionals from other fields, who may see video games as a new professional space in which to apply their skills.

Through theoretical sessions and some more practical sessions, the aim is for students to become familiar with the possibilities of video games and gamification so they can reflect on how this audiovisual and interactive product can influence and enhance their professional expertise, or open up new professional horizons in an industry where Catalonia enjoys a privileged environment.
