The mental health of healthcare professionals (doctors, vets, nurses, psychologists) and other professionals with significant social responsibility (civil protection and emergency services personnel, firefighters, police officers, prison officers, social workers and educators, and teachers) is a matter of growing concern worldwide. These professionals face highly stressful working conditions, including long working hours, demanding training requirements, a high level of responsibility and continuous exposure to emotionally complex and challenging situations. These circumstances have been identified as occupational risk factors, which can sometimes lead to emotional exhaustion, burnout and the development of severe mental health conditions and/or addictions, amongst other psychological difficulties.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these problems, making it clear that there is an urgent need to address the mental health of these professionals in a systemic manner. That is why the Department of Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine at the UAB Faculty of Medicine, the Galatea Foundation, Mutual Médica and the Barcelona Medical Association are promoting the micro-credential in The Prevention and Promotion on Health in the Workplace.

The programme covers the main theoretical models, early detection tools and assessment methodologies. It also explores the design, implementation and evaluation of programmes for the prevention and promotion of emotional well-being, including individual, relational and organisational strategies, as well as institutional policies focused on emotional health in the professional context.

The course combines theoretical content with case analysis, problem-solving and the development of practical proposals, with the aim of transferring knowledge directly to professional practice.

Contents

- Instruments and techniques for assessing psychosocial risks in the workplace.
- Programs for their prevention and for the promotion of emotional well-being in the health sector.

Career opportunities

This micro-credential enables participants to expand their professional skills in order to contribute to health prevention and promotion in the workplace, particularly in the areas of psychosocial risk assessment, early detection, burnout prevention and the design of emotional wellbeing programmes. The skills acquired are applicable in health and social care centres and services, occupational health and risk prevention services, human resources and organisational wellbeing departments, as well as in professional settings of significant social importance.
