Twenty-nine years ago, we launched a Postgraduate Program in Photojournalism. Looking back, the most valuable aspect of this educational initiative -without diminishing the contribution of our guest professionals or faculty- has undoubtedly been our students. We are proud that, at the time, they chose to complement their education with us. We have welcomed students from more than thirty countries. All of them, both those who have pursued professional careers in photojournalism -many with outstanding trajectories- and those who have followed other paths, speak very positively of their time in our classrooms, as well as the environment and the friendships they formed there.

The program was founded in 1998 based on a clear observation: that for many photographers, the world of the press was unfamiliar; and that for many journalists, it was the world of photography that felt foreign. This dual gap led us to recognize the need for training that would integrate both fields: photography and journalism. With this aim, we sought the collaboration of some of the most prestigious professionals and academics in related fields. Over the course of twenty-nine editions, the high level of satisfaction expressed by our students upon completing their studies has encouraged us to continue offering this postgraduate diploma.

This time, however, things will be different: instead of the 30th edition of the Postgraduate Program in Photojournalism, we present the first edition of a Master's degree program in Photojournalism. This change does not only mean an increase in the number of academic credits and greater participation from guest professionals -most of whom are former students who have been practicing professionally for years- but also the inclusion of broader and more up-to-date content in areas such as video production, social media presence, artificial intelligence, multiplatform storytelling, ethics and truthfulness in digital environments, and independent project management.

We hope that this first edition of the Master's in Contemporary Photojournalism, as well as the ones to come, will attract and truly benefit students as accomplished as those we have had so far.

This programme is in the final stages of approval and is awaiting validation by the Academic Affairs Committee, which is scheduled for 15/10/2026.
