The Diploma of Expert in Robotic Surgery Nursing is structured into three training blocks that combine a solid theoretical foundation, practical immersion in robotic operating rooms, and a final project aimed at improving professional practice.
The theoretical component provides the scientific, technical, and ethical foundations necessary to practice competently in a robotic surgical environment. It covers the principles of robotic surgery, its indications and limitations, as well as the operation and management of robotic systems. It also addresses the role of the perioperative nurse across all phases of the surgical process, risk management and patient safety, team coordination, and decision-making in technologically advanced settings, while incorporating a focus on the quality, sustainability, and efficiency of robotic programs.
The practical module enables students to integrate the knowledge they have acquired and develop professional skills in real-world situations. During rotations in robotic surgery operating rooms, students participate in preparing the operating room and the robotic system, positioning the patient, and performing safety checks, as well as providing intraoperative assistance and managing instruments. They also gain experience in troubleshooting, responding to critical situations, and applying quality and sustainability protocols, with a level of participation that increases as they master the necessary competencies. Finally, the Final Project allows for the integration of the knowledge gained during the diploma program through an individual project that adds value to nursing practice in robotic surgery. This project may consist of a proposal to improve processes or patient safety, the analysis of a complex clinical case, a technological or organizational innovation initiative, or a critical review of a relevant aspect of robotic surgery.

Specific skills
KT01. Describe the theoretical, technological, and methodological foundations of robotic surgery, to explain the operation of robotic systems, the role and responsibilities of the nurse in all phases of the surgical process, as well as the protocols, safety standards, and physical, emotional, and informative needs of the patient, using criteria of scientific evidence, quality of care, and clinical risk management.
ST01. Analyze complex clinical and technical situations in robotic surgery, utilizing critical thinking, clinical judgment, and scientific evidence to assess procedures, circuits, and protocols, while developing effective communication and coordination in high-tech environments that promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered practice, in collaboration with both the team and the surgical patient.
ST02. Prepare the organization and management of a robotic operating room based on criteria of safety and efficiency, competently executing instrumentation and coordination tasks, applying protocols and risk prevention measures, and demonstrating progressive autonomy, technical precision, and professional responsibility in all phases of the robotic surgical procedure.
CT01. Deliver specialized nursing care in robotic surgery in a holistic, safe, and evidence-based manner, integrating effectively into high-tech interprofessional teams, and maintaining a professional, ethical, reflective attitude oriented toward continuous improvement in complex surgical environments.
CT02. Synthesize in a clear, rigorous, and professional manner the results, conclusions, and recommendations of an academic paper in robotic surgery, demonstrating autonomy, self-assessment capacity, and responsibility throughout the process, while integrating critical thinking and an orientation toward improving clinical practice.
