The Erasmus Mundus in Environmental Studies - Cities and Sustainability (JEMES) offers top academic level scientific and theoretic training. Based on long term excellence in teaching and research, the master's degree is devoted to the quality of the environment and related technologies as well as to sustainable management and conservation. JEMES deals from the technological and managerial perspective with chemical, physical and biological changes in the environment as well as social and economic aspects and considers the behaviour of air, water and soil as they are affected by anthropogenic activities.

The JEMES CiSu master's degree is a two-year programme (120 ECTS credits). Students will begin their studies at the UAB or at Aalborg University and will spend their second semester at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). Mobility in the second year depends on the student's specialisation: Environmental Technology or  Environmental Management. The fourth semester is devoted exclusively to the Master Thesis.

JEMES CiSu is a strongly interdisciplinary programme, integrating course units delivered by academic staff from all four partner universities and leading guest scholars. The master's degree is offered fully in English and an international and intercultural environment is encouraged, not only by strongly supporting mobility among students and academic staff, but also by equally distributing students from Europe and from the rest of the world.
